Dogs LOVE Christmas!

Our Cairns love Christmas. This is a photo from Christmas 2007. We always have a stocking of toys for Molly and Jack to open. Some of their stocking gifts are their old toys that I wrapped up. They just enjoy the unwrapping process so much and it's a fun activity for them.

Jack especially loves toys that talk. This year we got him replacement #3 of the Pip Squeak Duck dog toy, some kind of goofy toy called a Deedle Dudes cow and a Skinneeez skunk.

Speaking of skunks, Molly got sprayed by a skunk today while we were out on our walk. Oh boy ... another story for another day!

Does your Dog have a Toy Box?

I keep all of my Cairn Terrier's toys in dog toy boxes. They have one toy box inside, one outside, and one in my van. Each toy box has a closable lid, so that I am in control of the number of toys they play with at any given time.

In this way, they do not get bored with all of the toys being available to them at once. By having a toy box in each location, it makes putting toys away quicker and easier.

Choosing the Best Dog Toys

Cairn Terriers love toys especially if you introduce toys to your Cairn while he's a puppy. Choose toys with different textures since puppies feel and learn with their mouths.

Your Cairn Terrier's Toy Box

Puppies and dogs love toys and a Cairn Terrier puppy or dog is no different. Our first Cairn Terrier, Molly May, doesn't play with toys as much as she did when she was younger. She is now as of the writing of this article 2 years and 4 months old. Happy Jack though is now 1 year 4 months old and he still actively plays with toys. In fact he love them.

Pip Squeaks Dog Toys

There are few toys that every dog or puppy loves. Our first Cairn Terrier, Molly May, wasn't real big on any specific toys but Happy Jack , our second Cairn Terrier, has a completely different personality when it comes to toys.

I Qube for Active Cairn Terriers

Another of Happy Jack's favorite toys is the I Qube. The I Qube is a soft plush toy in the shape of a cube. It's primarily a puzzle for dogs and it contains four plush balls with squeakers. Jack likes to throw the balls or have us throw the balls for him. He fetches and brings them back to us.

Kongs for Cairns

What is a Kong? It is a peculiar word, and I didn't know what a Kong was either. When my Cairns were puppies I kept reading a reference to a Kong in all of the dog training books. Whatever this Kong was, it seemed to be used as a treat or reward. It had been 20+ years since I'd had a puppy so this was all new baby stuff to me. It was also a fun learning experience.
